"I am Christian MacLeod, I’m 26 and I have dedicated my life to my initials for the last ten years. Ever since I was a little boy, I always wanted to be a Professional Golfer. Never in my life, did I ever, think that I would be a Belt Designer. I started competing in golf when I was 8 years old. As I got older, golf very much turned into a fashion sport for me and I started designing my own clothes to stand out from other golfers. I turned professional as young as I could, but a year into my professional debut I broke my ankle, badly, making me unable to compete in professional golf for two years. I made the decision there and then, over the next two years while I couldn't compete in golf, I was going to attempt to build a brand with my designs.
In order to build the brand I visioned, I needed people to wear my designs, I needed people to see it; I needed to be on outfits seven days a week and if I was to designed shirts, an individual would wear it and the next day it would be in the wash basket, meaning I am only going to see that shirt one day of the week, if I’m lucky. But if I design a belt, I am on your outfit seven days a week and for building a brand, I needed awareness of my designs and the only way I could do that was with a belt.
The belt gave me the chance to have my designs on eye level, making them very easy to spot on fresh new eyes. I also could design belts where the buckle was my own trademark, giving me the biggest advertisement on your outfit. Two years later and I was fit, I was ready to tackle the professional golf circuit again. Those two years I had packed up my life in golf and put it on my back, I travelled the world with my belts and I came to a crossroads. Belts or golf? Belts had cornered me. And I turned my back on my return to golf.
Now ten years on, without my ankle break I wouldn't be here today designing belts Internationally. Back when all this started, I felt sure there would be no boundaries, I'm even more sure of that today. Part of the excitement is breaking rules, knowing the rules and breaking the rules and making them even better.
I’m drawing inspiration from my life, from history, from movies, from books, from everything I see; I put it together and try to make a statement. The concepts of how I see people wear my belts becomes the art piece to me. Ten years I’ve been doing this. Since the moment I designed my first belt. Everything I am is in these belts. They are the belts of my life. 2008 - 2018."
