INTRODUCTION TO THE BELT MAN
What started as a dream has grown into an entire world; since the beginning I have kept a diary to look back at all the fun, the misery and struggle, the comedy, the drama, the romance and all the tragedy to bring my belts to the fashion market.
Most people only pay attention to the final product. What most don’t see is what I’ve overcome; the daily rejections, the heartaches, the betrayal, the criticism, the empty bank account and all those lonely nights to make my vision a reality.
Truthfully, I trained most of my life as a golfer, since the age of 6, an individual one-person sport controlling every aspect of my game, myself, no matter what the circumstances. You could never have an excuse in golf, whatever the lie angle, hazard or weather condition; there are no pictures on your scorecard. Yet fashion was a big deal in golf, if you can’t play the part it’s important to look the part. I used to be really proud of my outfit before tournament; I spent a small fortune on new clothes from designer golf brands to feel that extra confident for the first tee nerves. One problem though, everyone was wearing the same clothes with the limited choice of designer golf wear brands; so at 16 years old I made the bold decision to start designing my own clothes to stand out from the other golfers.
There is a reason why I design just belts. There is reason why Christian MacLeod operates as only my initials –CM. There is a reason behind every business decision I’ve made, the only aspect of my life I didn’t have a reason for was when I was involved in a terrible accident, four months in hospital and not being able to compete in professional golf for 2 years. This accident took me to a crossroad, where I decided to turn my back on my professional golf career and focus entirely on changing the international perception of belts.
For building the belt brand I could vision in my head, I was sure I could achieve it myself, alone, like I always did in golf. The Journey to build my own brand, my own lifestyle, my own world, my own global fashion business, all on my own, from zero, with a belt, has been an emotional rollercoaster; let me kindly suggest you BELT UP before you begin page one.
